Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) / Rajkiya Aayurvigyan Sansthaan U.P. is an autonomous institute under the Government of Uttar Pradesh, was upgraded to the present state of Medical college on 15th February 2016 from previously known Kanshiram Multi-speciality Hospital. After providing 3 years of basic health care services, this year Medical Council of India inspected the facilities and permitted the 100 student batch to this institute on 20th may 2019. On 10th of July, the team from prestigious King George's Medical University inspected the institute and approved their affiliation for MBBS degree.
On 1st of August 2019 the classes of 1st year MBBS batch 2019 was started with the big bang in the form of Orientation Programme organized in the Auditorium of GBU, which was attended students and their parents. Inaugral programme was started with welcome of the dignitaries on and off the dais, followed by Saraswati Vandana and Lamp lighting. In this inaugural session, Chief Guest Air Marshal Dr. R.S. Grewal, AVSM & VSM, Guest of honour Professor, Bhagwati Prakash Sharma and special guest Shree Dhirendra Singh congratulated all the students and their parents for the achieving success in the entrance exam and entering into the prestigious and noble profession of Medicine through the MBBS course. Director Brig. Rakesh Gupta welcomed all and congratulated the students for choosing GIMS, Greater Noida for their MBBS course. He assured all the students and their parents not to worry as the hospital is running since long have 21 major departments with full faculty as per the MCI requirement. He informed that it is presently 300 bedded hospital with patient load in outdoor of approx. 1500 per day and indoor where average 200 patients remain admitted to provide good clinical exposure to MBBS students. Area wise it is lush green clean campus with full security. Program was also attended by Director SS-PGI Dr. D.K. Gupta, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anurag Bhargava, Registrar GBU - Shri Bachchoo Singh, and officials of GBU.
Before the inaugural session of Orientation program Chief Medical Superintendent, Dr. Shikha Seth informed about the Hospital and its services, Dean, Dr. Vivek Kumar Sharma appraised all about the newly introduced MBBS curriculum change by the MCI from this year 2019 for which all necessary arrangements has been made by the institute. Proctor, Dr. Satendra Kumar sensitized students about the rules, regulations and policies related to hostels. Dr. Vanita Lal administered the Charak Oath of initiation to all the students. Dr. Manisha successfully conducted the whole orientation cum inaugural session of 1st MBBS course session.
Students were Introduced to all the faculty members of various departments of the GIMS, which was followed by tree plantation drive in the academic block GIMS, where students planted many trees under supervision of warden Dr. Amit Shrivastava. After this students and parents were taken to hospital and GBU campus tour through the college buses. As per the MCI new schedule first full month of August, "Foundation course" be conducted covering general aspects like health, hygiene, sports, yoga, language, computers, communication skills, medical education, ethics, government programs and community health etc, before starting the actual theoretical part of MBBS. Each student will get mentor teacher to help them out in difficulties. Various extra curricular activity clubs has been formed headed by faculty members for the students.
