The Department of Surgery created at GIMS in 2017. Since then, the tireless efforts of surgical faculties have contributed to the continuous development of department.
The Department was initially started with OPD and minor surgeries . Gradually IPD, major surgeries including laparoscopic & emergencies surgeries started. Now surgery OPD services every month cater more than 2500 surgical patients. More than 120 major and more than 300 minor procedures done every month in general surgery department including emergency surgeries. Since 2020 all general surgical procedures along with endourology , onco-surgeries and pediatric surgeries are being performed.
After successful MCI inspection first batch of undergraduate took admission in 2019. The teaching and Clinical posting of the undergraduates was started afterwards.
Over the years, super-speciality clinics were started thus widening the profile and to the ultimate betterment of the Department.
State of the art Skill lab has also been established to teach and improve the skills of undergraduates and residents . Since then the undergraduate and surgery residents are regularly trained on simulators for learning suturing and knotting techniques, gut and vascular anastomosis. Laparoscopic endo trainer has also been installed to give the budding surgeons an opportunity to sharpen their skills before they perform laparoscopic surgery on the patients.
CME and live workshop was conducted in July 22.
